The annual Longdown Jumble Sale on 29th February kicked off the 2020 events calendar in aid of the running costs of the village hall. As usual the village was generous with donations and we had an enticing and varied range of things on sale especially clothes and toys, books and bric-à-brac. By 2 pm there was already a formidable queue at the door and soon the village hall was full of people from far and wide, armed with several carrier bags, seizing the bargains on offer. Some made several trips backwards and forwards to their car, many said that they had been looking out for the event for a few weeks as they came every year and always really enjoyed it. The event made approximately £450 which is a very useful addition to our funds and will allow us to keep our village hall running and in good order – and to help pay for improvements such as the new heaters which are amazingly efficient at keeping the large space lovely and warm.
Many villagers turned out to help run this event, setting up, manning stalls, making and serving tea and clearing up afterwards. All things not sold are given to a deserving charity. The Village Hall Social Committee thank everyone who helped and contributed to the jolly atmosphere and of course to all those who bought anything.
